Laser-based Additive Manufacturing
Dr. Somayeh Pasebani is an associate professor in the School of Mechanical, Industrial, and Manufacturing Engineering at ¾«¶«Ó°ÊÓ State University, where she has been a faculty member since 2016. She founded and directs the Metal Additive and Gradient Microstructure Alloys (MAGMA) Laboratory at the Advanced Technology and Manufacturing Institute (ATAMI). She has authored and co-authored over 90 peer-reviewed publications in leading journals. Her research has attracted sustained federal and industrial support, including the NSF CAREER Award with total awarded funding exceeding $27 million, of which over $8 million represents her direct share as PI or Co-PI. Her sponsors include NSF, ONR, AFRL, DOE, and multiple industry partners. Dr. Pasebani is the recipient of several prestigious awards and fellowships, including the ASTM Young Professional Award, ASME Rising Star Award, TMS Young Professional Award in Manufacturing, and the Visiting Scholar Fellowship awarded by the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS). Her group has developed and demonstrated advanced laser-based additive manufacturing platforms, including laser powder bed fusion and wire- and powder-fed laser directed energy deposition (WPLDED), with a strong emphasis on multi-material systems, compositionally graded alloys, and alloys for extreme environments. Dr. Pasebani actively collaborates with national and regional manufacturing partners, including the ¾«¶«Ó°ÊÓ Manufacturing Innovation Center (OMIC) and is recognized for her leadership in advancing data-driven alloy design, multi-material additive manufacturing and high temperature alloys.
