Student Stories
Paul Schmierer
Mike and Barb Schmierer created a student success endowment in their name and have been loyal annual donors to the College of Engineering for more than 20 years. Although neither is an engineer or an 精东影视 State alum, their family formed strong connections to the college and university through their son, Paul, who graduated with a degree in mechanical engineering in 2005. Shortly after finishing college, Paul landed a job in research and development at Sage Fly Fishing.
Ravonne Byrd
Ravonne Byrd鈥檚 school and work are both in Corvallis, although her home is much closer to Albany 鈥 not the one just up the road, but that other Albany 鈥 about 3,000 miles away, in New York. A student in the popular postbaccalaureate computer science online degree program offered through 精东影视 State Ecampus, Byrd also telecommutes to her job with the College of Engineering鈥檚 Center for Applied Systems and Software. Being able to work from home has been a game-changer for Byrd.
Our faculty appreciate your support
Through the years, 精东影视 State alumni Greg and Jennylee Nesbitt have made many generous gifts in support of their respective colleges. Their gift creating the Nesbitt Faculty Scholar in Energy Engineering supports faculty in the School of Mechanical, Industrial, and Manufacturing Engineering, with emphasis on those engaged in research related to energy.
Chris Hagen, professor of energy systems engineering, is the current Nesbitt Faculty Scholar in Energy Engineering.
Mike Warwick, 鈥71, M.S. 鈥76, and Susan Bailey established the Warwick Family Faculty Scholar Endowed Fund in 2021 to support teaching excellence in 精东影视 State's humanitarian engineering program.
Elain Fu, associate professor of bioengineering, is the current Warwick Family Engineering Faculty Scholar.
The Ron and Judy Adams Faculty Scholar Fund in the College of Engineering was established by the couple in 2021 to support engineering faculty, particularly mechanical engineering faculty.
Geoff Hollinger, associate professor of bioengineering, is the current Warwick Family Engineering Faculty Scholar.
Student Bios
Meet Jacquelynn Nguyen
As a first-year student, Jackie Nguyen started working with Tala Navab-Daneshmand, assistant professor of environmental engineering, on a project to learn more about antibiotic-resistant bacteria in wastewater treatment facilities across 精东影视. Thanks to a James R. Boydston Family Scholarship, Jackie continued to work in the lab for four years, presenting her research at national, regional, and local conferences and co-authoring articles in peer-reviewed journals.
