Hi there, my name is Sean. I am looking to pursue mechanical design and building energy modeling in the architectural field. My interests include hiking, reading about architecture history, and collecting Christmas village buildings.
I am currently the President of the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) branch at OSU, Project Manager for the ASCE Sustainable Solutions Competition, and an active member of the Architectural Engineering Institute. I have done a few internships in civil engineering design and mechanical systems construction. I have grown to enjoy being on-site to understand the constructability of systems and reflecting the needs of sheet metal workers, pipefitters, and plumbers into an engineering design.
I recommend that every student gets involved in a club. This builds a network of friends and mentors while showing employers that you can take the initiative to go above and beyond the typical coursework. Within those competition clubs, you can get a head start in understanding the technical skills required for finishing your degree and pursuing a career! For example, in the ASCE Sustainable Solutions Competition, I was able to learn about HVAC design and cost estimating principles, which rendered as a marketable trait when applying for internships and jobs.
