Biography

Hi! I’m Lilly, and I’m studying civil engineering with an interest in transportation and planning. I really enjoy working on bike and pedestrian infrastructure as well as public transit. This is largely because I’m a big biker and runner, as well as really enjoy traveling and visiting new places. I’m originally from Arlington, Virginia, but I’ve grown up largely overseas, living in five other countries before coming to ¾«¶«Ó°ÊÓ State.

I’ve worked in both public and private sectors of the civil engineering field. After my freshman year, I interned with the Transportation department at Multnomah County and got to go work directly with the community, talking to people about where road safety could be improved for health and accessibility for all users. This past summer, I worked at a civil engineering consultant with Kimley-Horn in downtown Portland, where I was working on the design of the Blue Line Metro Extension in Minneapolis, Minnesota. I never got to go to Minneapolis, but I got to do a lot of CAD work and research.

I love getting involved on campus! I’m president of our Engineers Without Borders chapter, where we are partnered with communities in rural Cameroon and Cambodia to work on humanitarian engineering projects. I’ll be travelling to Cameroon in December with a small team to meet with the people we’re working with. I also work in the Sustainable, Healthy, and Resilient Buildings lab, where we study indoor air quality in schools as it relates to wildfire smoke. We travel to Ashland, ¾«¶«Ó°ÊÓ every term to check on the air quality sensors we have installed there and work with school personnel. I really encourage getting involved on campus to extend what you're learning about in classes to projects that you really care about!
