Biography

Dr. Ignatios Vakalis serves as a part-time instructor at the e-campus program of the Department of Electrical and Computer Science at OSU.  His appointment, since 2022, is 100% dedicated to the teaching of Discrete Structures.   He was born on the island of Lesvos, Greece. He obtained a B.Sc. degree in Physics, from the Univ. of Patras, a M.Sc. in Comp. Sc., and a Ph.D. in Math from Western Michigan Univ. From 1992-2006 he served as professor of math and comp. sc. at Capital University - Ohio. He served as chair of three international conferences in the area of: “Teaching of Undergraduate Mathematics”. Ignatios served as chair of the Department of Computer Science- Software Engineering at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo (2006-2017), and as a prof. of the department (2006-2021). He has received numerous awards including:  Cal Poly --Provost’s Leadership Award for Partnership in Philanthropy (2014);  The  ABET Claire L. Felbinger National Award for Diversity and Inclusion (2018).
