Hi, I'm CJ Chavez! I'm a current 3rd-year Computer Science student in the Robot Intelligence applied option, with a minor in Mathematics. I'm an out-of-state student from New Mexico and a tribal member of Kewa Pueblo.
On campus, I'm a member of the Society for the Advancement of Chicanos/Hispanics and Native Americans in Science (SACNAS), collaborating to revive the American Indian Science and Engineering Society at OSU, volunteer regularly in Community Engagement & Leadership programs, a previous URSA Engage awardee, and a current research assistant for OSU's SHARE Lab, where I work on human-robot interaction and robotic nudging studies. My advice to students is to get involved! It's a great way to meet new people, gain new experiences, and learn about other opportunities.
In the future, I'll be a robotics software engineer focusing on developing assistive robotics. I also plan to continue to do K-12 outreach to encourage Indigenous youth to pursue careers in engineering.
