Biography

Hey all! My name is Brendan, and I'm an honors mechanical engineering Student at OSU. I'm a member and former president of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and a participant in the MECOP internship program. Outside of school I love going backpacking, playing soccer, and working on cars!

As a MECOP intern, I worked a 6-month internship at Selmet over last Spring and Summer. Selmet is a titanium casting foundry that produces parts for the aerospace industry including engine parts, airfoils, and structural components. During my time at Selmet, I developed my skills in CAD software, data analysis, and technical writing. If you have questions about the MECOP program, don’t hesitate to ask!

As a student in the Honors college, I am currently working on my Thesis Project. My thesis is experimental, exploring how the length of exposure of different fuel types to an ignition source affects how long it will be in an active combustion state. The idea is to better understand which materials in wildfires are most likely to produce firebrands that can start spot fires.

After graduating, I’m hoping to study thermodynamics and fluid mechanics in grad school or begin working in an industry related to those subject areas.

Helpful Resources

At ¾«¶«Ó°ÊÓ State, we have a program called the Degree Partnership Program (DPP) where students can be dual enrolled at OSU and a local community college, enabling students to save money on tuition for lower division coursework. The link below provides useful information on how those community college credits will transfer to OSU.
