Biography

Marion Carl, Maj. Gen. USMC Ret., graduated with a BS in Mechanical Engineering in 1938, with a minor in Aeronautical Engineering. He was the first Marine Corps Ace of WWII. Numerous other important "firsts" included commander of the first Marine jet squadron, first living Marine to be enshrined in the Naval Aviation Hall of Honor, and Navy Carrier Aviation Test Pilot's Hall of Fame. As a test pilot, he set a world speed record and a world altitude record. His career included two Navy Crosses, five Distinguished Flying Crosses, four Legion of Merits, 14 Air Medals, plus honors for his contributions to aeronautical sciences. He was awarded the E.B. Lemon Distinguished Alumnus Award from the OSU Alumni Association in 1990. Unfortunately, we lost Maj. Gen. Carl earlier this year.
