Biography

After graduating in 1940, Henry Oman worked on diesel-electric propulsion for submarines and destroyer-escort vessels at Allis Chalmers Mfg. Co. He moved to Boeing in 1948 and during his 41-year career worked on electric power applications that ranged from deep underground missile bases to Mars-bound spacecraft. He also completed his MS at OSU while employed at Boeing. Henry is a Fellow of IEEE and has served the institute in many capacities, including editor-in-chief of the Aerospace and Electric Systems Magazine. He was on the team that started the Intersociety Energy Conversion Engineering Conference, and in 1970, he organized the first "Power Conditioning Specialists Conference" that evolved into today's Power Electronics Society. He is also an Associate Fellow of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics and is author of the "Energy Systems Engineering Handbook," first published in 1986.
