In 1946, with three of his students (and fellow honorees today), OSU Civil Engineering professor Fred Merryfield founded what is now CH2M Hill, a world-wide environmental engineering company with 100 offices on six continents. A legendary professor of sanitary engineering at OSU, Prof. Merryfield' s expertise was applied to projects ranging from military bases in ¾«¶«Ó°ÊÓ and the Pacific during World War II to water resources and water and wastewater treatment facilities throughout the West. A renowned teacher and "chalk thrower," Prof. Merryfield' s legacy spans both academia and business. He received many honors during his career including OSU' s Distinguished Service Award. Active in the profession through ASCE and other societies, we remember Fred Merryfield daily at OSU via the building named in his honor.
