Before completing his PhD at OSU, Direk Lavansiri received a master’s degree from the University of Washington and a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok, Thailand. After graduation from OSU, he returned to Chulalongkorn University’s Department of Civil Engineering, where he specialized in Geotechnical and Pavement Engineering. Lavansiri served as chair of the department before his election to dean of engineering. He is currently serving his second term as dean of Thailand’s premier engineering school, which has more than 4,000 students, including a significant number of graduate students. More OSU Engineering PhD graduates serve on the faculty at Chulalongkorn University than at any other university in the world.
