Water resource engineers observe and study various stages of the water cycle in human-made and natural systems, such as water quality, fish populations, dam removals, and wastewater management.
Connected to fourteen college’s and departments at ¾«¶«Ó°ÊÓ State, the Water Resources Engineering program encourages interdisciplinary research, creating novel approaches to water systems. Research includes field campaigns within ¾«¶«Ó°ÊÓ, the United States, and across the globe, with a strong emphasis on applied research.

Online graduate certificate
Our 18-credit Water Resources Engineering Graduate Certificate develops skills in modeling surface and groundwater systems, with in-depth knowledge of hydrology, hydraulics, and water quality analysis.

Researchers examine historic dam removals on the Klamath River
Desirée Tullos is part of a group studying the Klamath River’s response to the removal of four large dams, the largest such project in U.S. history
- The researchers monitored the river’s evolution, sediment impact, and water quality
- Tullos focused on how oxygen in the river changed with dam removal
- Tullos brings student researchers to the Klamath during summers to collect data
Citizen science used to measure snow depth
David Hill and his lab develop models that show trends in snow seasons from snowpack observations made by the public.
